All homes have a thermostat (1) that measures room
temperature. If you raise the setting on the thermostat
above room temperature or if the temperature in the home
falls below the thermostat setting, a message is sent to
the burner controls (2) on the oil burner (3) . That
message is to create heat for the home. A pump (4) then
pulls oil through a filter (5) and into the oil burner.
At the same time, the transformer sends electricity
through the electrodes and creates a spark at the tip of
the oil nozzle. As the oil reaches the nozzle, it mixes
with air and turns into a fine spray. This combination
of oil, air and electricity ignites a flame in the
combustion chamber (6) . The combustion chamber (or
firebox) continues to get hot.
With a warm air system (below), heat is absorbed by air
in the heat exchanger (7) and a blower (8) sends this
air through ducts (9) to heat your home. Cool air from
the home is returned by the blower & heated again.
